Albert F. Sandberg, Jr.

July 28, 1935 — October 10, 2022

WESTBOROUGH

Albert F. Sandberg, Jr., 87, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Albert and H. Constance (Lydgman) Sandberg. He was raised and educated in Worcester and was a graduate of North High School.  During the late 1950’s he served with the United States Army.

Mr. Sandberg was a self-employed mason contractor in the greater Westborough area prior to his retirement.  He worked with his long-time friend and developer, Ed Waters, creating beautiful stone and brick front homes, decorative fireplaces and stonewalls along Bowman St., Olde Coach Rd., Rev. Thomas Hooker Rd., Kay St., and the Pinecrest Dr., neighborhoods.  He also added his masonry talents to his daughter’s home in Westborough and his son’s home in Paxton, a great labor of love for him.

He enjoyed antique cars and attending antique car shows.  He was especially proud of the trophies he received for his 1939 Ford Standard, a replica of his first car.  In his younger days, he was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He loved the outdoors; whether it was summer, fall, winter or spring.  Cape Cod was a favorite vacation spot where he enjoyed his summers growing up with his family and then sharing that love of Cape Cod with his children.  He was a kind and gentle man, dedicated to all in his family his entire life.

Albert is survived by two children, Wendy L. Mickel of Westborough and Albert F. Sandberg, III, and his wife Kerri, of Paxton; two brothers, Robert Sandberg of Oakdale and John “Jack” Sandberg and his wife, Elaine, of Auburn; one granddaughter, Erica Pezzoni and her husband Jonathan; and one great-grandson, Jonathan “Jack” Pezzoni, of Westborough.  He also left behind a very close and longtime friend Maggie Malloy of Westborough.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in All Faith’s Cemetery, 9 Island Rd., Worcester. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: woundedwarriorproject.org or mailed to: The Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
