Albert Dwyer Wilbur 4-1-1926 to 10-19-2019
Born in Chelsea, as a 10th generation American to his father Alger H. Wilbur, a descendant of Samuel Wilbur who established the Boston Common and founded Portsmouth Rhode Island and as a first generation American to his mother Elizabeth M Dwyer Wilbur of Castletownbere, Ireland. He was a resident of Roxbury, Carver, Dorchester, Milton and Cotuit Massachusetts and Saint Petersburg Florida. A graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School and Northeastern University. He served his country valiantly in Hawaii, Guam and China as a Marine during WW2. He was a civil engineering and soils expert who worked on many high profile projects including the Tobin Bridge, the Statehouse, Christian Science Building and Rowes Wharf in Boston and the Capitol building dome repair in Washington DC. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years Marion Van Newenhoven Wilbur and his dear sisters Grace M Nowland of Needham and Irene F Flanagan of Longmeadow MA
He is survived by his devoted children, Jane Misicka and her husband, Michael, of Cotuit, Nancy Lareau and her husband, Richard, of Westborough, Susan Wilbur, of Quincy, Debbie Campbell of Quincy, John Wilbur and his wife, Deborah, of Avon, CT, James Wilbur and his wife, Claudia, of New Castle, NH and Andrew Wilbur and his wife, Rosa, of Milton. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with Military Honors, will be at 2:30 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
A calling hour will precede the Mass from 9 to 10 A.M. at the Pickering and Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boston’s Children’s Hosptal.
