MILFORD- Allan G. Hopkinson, 79, of Milford passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters, on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Northbridge. He was the husband of the late Constance (Morgan) Hopkinson.
Born in Peabody, MA, he was the son of the late Allan M. and B. Helena (Cann) Hopkinson. He was educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. He also earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Allan began his career as a history teacher, in Beverly, MA, and then in Mountain Lakes, NJ. He then took on training positions in industry. Twenty-six years of his career was spent at Factory Mutual Insurance Company where he retired in 1995 as manager of the audio-visual department. After retirement he enjoyed a second career back in the public school system in the roles of transportation coordinator, substitute teacher, and administrative services coordinator in Milford and Hopedale School Systems.
He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Milford, holding many leadership positions and served for several years as a town meeting member in Milford.
Allan is survived by two daughters, Pamela Hennessy and her husband, Peter, and Mary Beth Sweet and her husband, Paul, all of Uxbridge; his sister, Gail Knowles of Holliston and grandchildren, Sarah and Shannon Hennessy, Lindsay, Leah and Landon Sweet, one niece and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 3:00 P.M. in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 17 Congress St., Milford. Burial in Vernon Grove Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours.
