Arnold J. “Arnie” Cantera, 95, of Westborough, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the UMass/Memorial Healthcare- Universty Hospital, Worcester, after being stricken ill. He was the husband of Viola M. (Greco) Cantera.

Born in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Antoinette (Francesconi) Cantera. He was educated in Camden schools and graduated from Camden County Vocational School.

During WW II he served with the U. S. Navy attaining the rank of Machinist’s Mate S First Class.

Arnie was employed as a manufacturing engineer for RCA and in later years as a manufacturers representative for Nofsker Component Products prior to his retirement.

He was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist church where he served as a greeter and usher. He was a member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Council #85, Knights of Columbus and a member of the Westborough Country Club. He also served the town of Westborough as the Reservoir Warden. Arnie has been a resident of Westborough since 1970 previously living in New Jersey.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Arnold J. “Corky” Cantera and his wife, Peg, of Ocean City, NJ and Eugene D. Cantera and his wife, Lyn, of Carrollton, TX; two daughters, Nancy Alberta of Roebuck, SC and Maryellen Cantera of West Palm Beach, FL; one brother, David Cantera of Southampton, NJ and one sister, Dorothy Nocifore of Mt. Laurel, NJ; five grandchildren, Christine Cantera, Louis Alberta, Alicia Alberta, Parker Cantera and Sophia McClung and nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Anthony and Isadore Cantera.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 10, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.

Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., are Monday, November 9, from 4 to 7 P.M.

Members of the Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the funeral home.
