WEST BROOKFIELD

Beverly Ann Eva Chartier Farmer, 92, of West Brookfield, MA, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She devoted 68 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Robert Farmer, who tirelessly cared for her, especially during her sunset years.

Born in Worcester, Bev was the daughter of the late Arthur and Zora (Walsh) Chartier. She graduated in 1950 from Commerce High School and attended Clark University in Worcester, MA.  While raising her two children, Bev worked for many years in secretarial and senior administrative positions at State Mutual Life Insurance Company, the YWCA, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Central Mass., and FLLAC Collaborative Functional Skills Program, serving the severely developmentally disabled.

Bev loved reading, writing poetry, swimming, listening to music, and playing organ and piano. In her early career, she served as organist at Quinsigamond Baptist Church and was an active member of First Baptist Church, Worcester, MA, serving as a Junior High Advisor, Church School Teacher, and member of the Board of Education and Music Committee.

As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Bev radiated love, light, warmth, and enriched the lives of all who knew her. Family and friends held the highest place in her heart. A compassionate listener, her greatest gift was cultivating lifelong friendships across every generation by loving and valuing each person in their own special way.

Bev’s light-hearted spirit, wit, giggle, brilliant smile and beaming blue eyes were her hallmark. Her outer beauty paired beautifully with her quiet inner strength and composure, especially through life’s challenges. She found joy in the little things, the smallest gestures, and moments, and found a silver lining even in trying situations, which she punctuated with: “So, that’s good.” Her unwavering optimism served as a beacon of hope and inspiration. Her pure and gentle spirit will continue to guide us always.

In addition to her husband, Bev leaves behind her devoted and loving son and daughter-in-law, David and Christine Farmer of Westborough, MA and her precious granddaughters, Kathryn Joseph and her husband Noah, and Nicole Farmer. Her daughter, Nancy Farmer Wakefield, preceded her passing in 2004.

Calling hours are 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, MA. Private burial will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston, MA.

Bev’s family sends their heartfelt gratitude to friends and family for their love and support over the years, and especially to the skilled and compassionate healthcare workers, home health aides and hospice team.
