GRAFTON- Bryan Gatley, 62, of Grafton, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Monday, September 16, 2013 in his home in Grafton, MA
Born in Worcester, raised in Westborough, Bryan was the son of the late Linwood W. “Bob†and Bethel L. (Mason) Gatley. He graduated Class of ’69 from Westborough High School. Bryan also graduated from Westfield State College and earned a Masters in Education at Worcester State College.
Bryan was 4th grade teacher with the Westborough school system having taught at the Armstrong School, Fales School and Mill Pond School retiring in 2007. Bryan also authored two children’s books, “Dog Gone Mystery†and The Christmas Hamsterâ€.
Bryan’s passions were his family and friends, music, playing bass guitar, animals, teaching, his dog, Abbey, and most recently, the reunion of his band, Tailspin.
Following his retirement, he volunteered at the Cummings Veterinary School Wildlife Clinic. He drove the bus for the Westborough Senior Center and spent all the free time he had with his three grandchildren.
Bryan is survived by Sandra (Whittington) Gatley of Grafton; his two children, Jess Gatley and his girlfriend, Kristine MacAulay, of Boston and Lauren Gatley Cerone and her husband, Jimmy, of Bellingham; three brothers, Richard Gatley of Keene, NH, Scott Gatley of Acton and Jeff Gatley of Worcester; one sister, Lynn Hall of Westborough and three grandchildren, Kyla, Mason and Torin.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, September 23, at 3:30 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main St., Westborough.
