WESTBOROUGH- Carl E. Temple, 75, of Westborough passed away March 11th at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation-Eliot, in Natick, after a lengthy illness. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Gordon & Lillian (Pocknett) Temple. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Patricia (Hart) Bleyle.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 50 years, Ethel L. (Rice) Temple, his children Kimberly Temple, Michael Temple, Laura (Temple) Donovan & her husband, Timothy, and granddaughters, Lindsay and Leslie Donovan. Carl is also survived by his brother Walter Temple, mother-in-law Dorenda Rice, brother-in-law
Joel Rice, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carl was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean. He was a former member of the Westborough Garden Club, Downtown Revitalization Committee, Westborough Country Club, Naval Minewarfare Association, and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). He was instrumental in restoring the historical water fountain at the entrance to Memorial Cemetery in town after more than 20 years in storage. He also designed and installed the landscaping at the war memorial site in front of the police station.
Carl worked for 24 years at the former Bay State Abrasives Company in Westborough, then turned his gardening hobby into a full-time shrub care & design business along with his son.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Rand-Harper Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 16th at 10:00 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
