WESTBOROUGH- Carlton H. Shindler, 95, of Westborough, formerly of Landisville, PA, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the UMass/Memorial Healthcare- University Hospital, Worcester. He was the husband of F. Annette (Evans) Shindler to whom he was married for 73 years.

Born in York, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Elsie (Keller) Shindler. He was educated in York and Lancaster schools and graduated from Millersville University and the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Masters in Education.

During WW II he served with the U.S. Navy and served as an instructor at the Pensacola Air Base. He was also involved with the occupation forces in the Philippine Islands. Following WW II he continued in the Naval Air Reserves attaining the rank of Commander and was honorably discharged in 1978.

Carlton was an Industrial Arts teacher and then a principal for the Solanco School District in Quarryville, PA. He started the Wrestling Program there in 1951 and was later inducted into the Solanco Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was a member of the Church of the Apostles, UCC, a member of the Lions Club, the Elks and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Glenn E. Shindler of La Canada, CA; two daughters, Cordelia A. Kaminski of Westborough and Lyndell L. Weeks of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Charles E. Shindler of Cape May, NJ, and Herbert M. Shindler of Tuscon, AZ; four grandchildren, JT Kaminski, Benjamin H. Kaminski, Catherine A. Kaminski, and Brandi Shindler and one great-grandson Charlie Kaminski.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in Lancaster, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
