Charles V. Vilandre

August 31, 1927 — March 3, 2024

WESTBOROUGH

Charles V. Vilandre, age 96, died peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at UMASS University Hospital surrounded by his devoted family.

He leaves two sons, David A Vilandre and his wife, Michele of West Boylston and Charles A Vilandre and his wife, Julie of North Attleboro, six grandchildren, Christopher Vilandre and his wife Caeli, Nicholas Vilandre and his wife Ashlee, Rachel Paraski, Vanessa Vilandre and her fiancé Benjamin Stone, Nathaniel Vilandre and Mason Geary, two great grandchildren, Ella and William Vilandre, a sister-in-law, Patricia Amorello, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Amorello) Vilandre, his sister Helen Koski and his good friend Ann Barnard and his dogs Candy and Gofa.

Charles was born in Worcester, the son of Victor P and Helen (Murphy) Vilandre.  He was a proud graduate of Commerce High School and Clark University.  Charles was an accountant for Raytheon Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1991.

After marrying in 1957, Charles and Dorothy moved to Westborough where Charles had lived since 1960.  He proudly planted every tree, shrub, bush, and plant on his property and meticulously maintained his plants both outdoor and indoor all his life.  He loved the outdoors, particularly bicycling in his younger days all over New England, and in later years walking.  He so loved his daily walks in Hopkinton State Park.  He was a voracious reader and loved doing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper.

But mostly, Charles was a person who wanted to make a difference.  He was a reading volunteer for over 20 years for Literacy Volunteers of America and in his retirement, he tutored Math and Reading three days a week at Catholic Charities for Worcester for 25 years.  He was so proud of his contributions to the less fortunate of the area.

Above all else, Charles loved his family.  He so enjoyed spending time with his sons and their families and loved every family gathering.  He would spend days afterwards talking about how each holiday or dinner was so special to him.  Charles was a kind, generous, and patient man who lived life to the fullest.  For many years each day began with Mass at St. Luke’s in Westborough.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Friday, March 8 from 5 to 7 pm at Pickering and Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main Street in Westborough.

The celebration of his life Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Church, 70 West Main Street in Westborough at 10am on Saturday, March 9.  He will be buried at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester beside his dear Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in Charles’ name can be made to St. Luke’s Church.
