SLEEPER, David Prescott
Age 75, of Marlborough, died on Sunday, February 22. David was born September 19, 1939 in Gleasondale, MA, the youngest child of Oscar and Miriam (Duley) Sleeper. He grew up in Stow and graduated from Hale High School in 1957, where he played basketball, baseball, and (in Hudson) football. In the 1960’s, David earned his certification as Electronics Technician, Petty Officer 3rd Class in the U.S. Coast Guard and attended Northeastern University. He married Yvonne (Petrosino) in 1961, with whom he had two daughters, raised dalmations and practiced real estate. David also worked at Raytheon Corp. and in 1973 he founded Ecology Controls, Inc. (ECI United Safety), which flourished as a distributor of pollution control and monitoring devices and industrial safety products. David also earned a U.S. patent for a sound-dampening enclosure for machinery. David married Wanda (Poczatek) in 1971 and had two children, living in Northborough and Bolton, and was predeceased by her in 1981. With his children, he enjoyed going to the library, being a boy scout leader and coaching youth sports; with friends he relished a competitive game of tennis and singing in the church choir. Later in life, David lived in Dallas, TX after marrying Claudya (McDermott). He returned to Marlborough in 2008, becoming a member of the Golden Tones chorus of Wayland and an enthusiastic spectator of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He is predeceased by his siblings Oscar Jr., Edward, Donald, and Ellen. David was a devoted father to his four children: Lynn Orav and husband John of Bedford; Staci Colby and husband William of Westborough; Ashley Collins and husband Christopher of Dallas, TX; and Prescott Sleeper and wife Sara of Eliot, ME as well as his nephew Michael Karol of Roslindale; and stepfather to Karen King Green and Russell and Mark King. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 5:30-7:30 PM, Friday, March 6, at Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough, MA. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 7 at Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., Northborough, MA.
