Dean B. Arvidson

Dean B. Arvidson, 91, of Westborough, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester, following complications from Covid 19.

Dean was born in Worcester to the late O. Gustaf and Clara E. M. (Johnson) Arvidson and was a resident of Westborough since 1961. He is a graduate of Worcester Academy (Class of 1948) and Tufts University.

He joined the Army in 1952, one year before earning his degree. He attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning Georgia and then spent a year in Korea during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Following active-duty, he became a member of the Army Reserve for 20 years and retired at the rank of Major.

After returning from Korea, he completed his degree at Tufts University and joined Norton Company in Worcester as an Industrial Engineer where he worked until retiring in 1989 as Director of Corporate Compensation.

Dean was an accomplished sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting, fishing, skiing, gardening and anything in the outdoors. He was a skilled fly fisherman and expert fly tyer and enjoyed traveling throughout the world with friends and family on many fishing trips.

He loved the Boston professional sports teams and sports in general. Dean was an enduring supporter of Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston where he was a member for many years and served as a volunteer and Trustee.

He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Joanne (Seibert) Arvidson.  In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Dean Arvidson Jr. and his wife, Cathleen, of Westborough, Dr. Eric Arvidson and his wife, Ellen, of Andover and Holly Arvidson of Woodbridge, VA; a brother and sister in law,  Dr. Dean Seibert and Ann Seibert of Norwich, VT and seven beloved granddaughters: Dr Laura Arvidson-Guzman and her husband Francisco of Boston,  Kimberly Arvidson of New York, NY, Heather Arvidson of Brunswick, ME, Kirsten Arvidson of Cambridge, Sarah Arvidson of Holyoke, and Allison Wilkins and Kristen Wilkins of Woodbridge, VA.

The family would like to thank Dean’s caregivers at UMass Memorial Medical Center and Beaumont Skilled Nursing for their kindness and support since November.

Private burial services will take place at later date in the spring.
