Born in New York City, Don attended Columbia College, Class of 1953 and the Cornell School of Medicine, Class of 1957. His medical career took him to Vanderbilt where he completed his medical internship. He then returned to New York where he was Chief Resident in Radiology at Montefiore Hospital. When he moved to Massachusetts, he entered private practice with offices in Brookline, Hyde Park, Waltham and Chestnut Hill. He was a well-respected radiologist practicing general radiology for over 30 years. During the first 20 years of his time in Massachusetts, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiology at the Boston University School of Medicine. In the later years of his career, Don traveled to Uppsala in Sweden to study with Dr. Laszlo Tabar to further his expertise in the field of mammography, which was his specialty. He also founded American Osteoporosis Services to deliver mobile bone density screening to medical centers around New England.
Throughout Don’s life, even after retirement from active practice, he continued to study cases on a daily basis on the website, “Aunt Minnie”. He spent countless hours accruing Continuous Medical Education credits in mammography and ultrasound. He was a long-standing member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the New England Roentgen Ray Society and the American College of Radiology.
In his personal life, Don was an avid fan of crossword puzzles and all Boston sports teams. He loved driving his Porsche 911s and went to Watkins Glen, NY to try his hand at racing. Don was a student of history and extremely knowledgeable on many subjects. He loved nothing more than to have long discussions about historical events or political happenings. When he wasn’t working, Don loved the sea, sailing and photography. He took his family on yearly vacations to various Caribbean islands.
Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cherylann (Chase) Taylor. He was a devoted father to Adam Taylor, Jennifer (Taylor) Kessler and Elisha (Jeremy) Taylor and loving big brother to Roger and Harriet Taylor. Don was predeceased by two sons, William and Paul Taylor. In recent years, Don enjoyed the company of 3 lovely grandchildren; Ian, Isabel and Sophie, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
