Donald A. Uhlman, 70, of Fredericksburg, VA, and formerly of Westborough, known to friends and family as “Donnie” or “Don,” passed away at home with family by his side on Monday, February 3, 2025. He was born on December 5, 1954, in Marlboro, MA.
Donnie grew up in Westboro, MA on his parents’ dairy farm where hard work, love of animals, planting and harvesting crops, and enjoying the great outdoors became the foundation of his life. He graduated from Westboro High School and married his wife, Janice, in 1975.
Donnie accepted a position with Tufts University Veterinary School in Grafton, MA where he worked for 10 years. Donnie played many key roles in the process and transformation as Tufts University Veterinary School, Hospital, and campus began to take shape.
The move to Virginia came in 1988, where he accepted a job working in the horticultural industry as an insurance agent for Mid Atlantic Insurance Associates for 20 years. He also worked for Lincoln Military Housing in Quantico, VA until he retired.
Donnie dedicated his life to his loving family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and was always fixing just about anything for anyone, mostly for his grandkids.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and how he teased us all and we loved it! He loved rock and roll music; he lived life to the fullest and most often on the wild side!
He is survived by his wife, Janice Uhlman; one daughter, Sarah Uhlman of Fredericksburg; three sons, Joshua Uhlman (Brianne) of Mineral, Ben Uhlman (Becky) of Fredericksburg, and Jacob Uhlman (Breonna) of Colonial Beach; he was “Grampa” or “Papa” to nine grandchildren, Haley (Kyle Morgan) of Richmond, Tatum, Killian, Bronson, Elijah, Jason, Finn, Noah, and Josiah; brother, Rowdy Uhlman (Bettiann) of Westboro, MA; sister, Diane Uhlman of Westboro, MA; special cousin, Jane Adams of Westboro, MA; so many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law all who had lasting and loving relationships with Donnie; last but not least, his dog and best friend, Ace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard B. Uhlman and Rita M. Uhlman.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mary Washington Hospice for their loving care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at The Wilderness Presidential Resort Clubhouse, Spotsylvania, VA.
