Dorothy Harris Freeston

Dorothy Harris Freeston, 91, of Westborough, MA, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2012.  She was the beloved wife of H. Russell Freeston, Jr. for 26 years.
She was born in Bethlehem, PA and was the daughter of the late Byron and Elsie (Rosenberger) Hagerman.  She was predeceased by her two sisters, Alice Howard, of Maine, and Grace Young, of Bethlehem, PA, and her brother Edward “Gus” Hagerman of Pasadena, CA.  She is survived by her brother James Hagerman and his wife Catherine, of Bethlehem.  She was also predeceased by her first husband of 38 years, Dale Ackley Harris, Ph.D., and is survived by her two former brothers-in-law, Richard Harris and his wife Joyce, of La Canada, CA, and Peter Harris and his wife Karen of Trenton, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is also survived by 2 children, her daughter Christine Kingsbury and her husband Stephen of Ashland, MA, and her son Kim Harris and his wife Susan, of Whitinsville, MA, and two step-sons, John Freeston and his wife Lois of Windham, NH, and Kenneth Freeston and his wife Cheryl of Newtown, CT.   She is survived by her grandchildren, Brian Kingsbury, Trisha Kingsbury Beagan and her husband Michael, and Caitlynn Harris.  She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Andrew Freeston and his wife Victoria, Norah Fallat and her husband Jeffrey, and David Freeston, and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy grew up in Bethlehem, PA and graduated from Liberty High School in 1938.  She worked at the law firm of Taylor, Taylor and Riskin in Bethlehem, and later in the Department of History and Political Science at Rutgers University after her first marriage.  After a number of years at home, she worked at various companies, including New York Life in Minnesota, and Computest and The Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) in New Jersey as her husband’s career prompted transfers to different states.  She was living on Cape Cod in East Dennis, MA when she was widowed, and she then married her second husband, Russell Freeston.
Dorothy enjoyed athletic pursuits, including speed skating, bowling, skiing, and golf during her life, and she was active in various leagues, most recently the women’s Nine-Hole League at Dennis Pines Golf Club.  She enjoyed playing bridge and loved world travel.
Funeral arrangements are private, and the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home in Westborough, MA, is assisting the Family with the arrangements.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support Parkinson’s Disease research at https://support.pdf.org/.
