Dorothy G. Spates

Dorothy Grace Spates, age 100, a long-time resident of Woodville, died in her sleep on September 13, 2014.  Dot was a long time employee of Bay State Abrasive and remained active in their retiree bowling league for many years.  In her later years, the house she built during the Great Depression and her views of Lake Whitehall brought her joy and comfort.  She is survived by her stepson, Frederick Spates of Huntington Beach, CA and several grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Brown, her second husband, Frederick Spates, Sr., her daughter Doris May Lavalle, and her granddaughters Brenda Bailey and Sally Jellison.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 17, at 10:30 A.M. in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Woodville. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.
