WESTBOROUGH

Emblem

Earl H. Hutt, 98, a lifelong resident of Westborough, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 in the presence and care of his family.

The son of Guy H. and Irene (Thorpe) Hutt, Earl was born February 11, 1927 in Westborough, Massachusetts. A young entrepreneur, he diligently completed his paper route and would hawk Hershey bars to his regular customers. Later, he held a part time job at Blois’s drug store which propelled him to study at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy following graduation from Westborough High School in 1944 at the top of his class.

Like many, Earl’s education was interrupted by WWII. He served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist’s Mate and occasional ambulance driver in the Atlantic theatre during the final months of the war. He returned to school and graduated in 1951. He purchased a drug store in Winchester Mass. and with his new bride, launched his professional career.

Known to many for his business acumen, Earl was a lifelong contributor to the community. He held roles at Bay State Abrasives, Westborough Savings Bank, served as Chairman of the Westborough Finance Committee, and was an early promoter of StaRRcar. He was also honored to serve as Chairman of the Board of the New England Deaconess Association. A man of deep faith, he was very active in the First United Methodist Church where he served on multiple committees and as a representative at the New England Annual Conference for many years.

Those who knew him best recall the joy he found in playing the piano, his endless enthusiasm for “big boys’ toys” (his Ford 5500 and Model A truck included), his affinity for raising beef cattle, and propensity for teaching his grandchildren to wink.

Earl Hutt was a kind and gentle soul who was firmly dedicated to the stewardship and protection of his family. He was a child of God, devoted son, loving husband, and steadfast father to all who came within his reach.

Earl is survived by his wife of 73 years, Cornelia (Krull) Hutt and his four children: Leonard and his wife Louise, of Westborough; Dr. Samual DeVries (aka Guy Hutt) and his wife Dr. Elizabeth Thompson of Cleveland, OH; Cameron and his wife Karin of Shrewsbury; and Dr. Derry Hutt of Blacksburg, VA. He also leaves his grandchildren, Neal Hutt and Margo Pyne; Adam and Kristy Bradley; Ben and Shannon Bradley, Emily and Larry Chiarella, Joshua and Elisa Hutt, Christopher Hutt and Jenny Lynn Cargiuolo, Heather and Sri Iyer, and Leandra and Matt Pfleger, 16 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is predeceased by his sister Phyllis Hoy Currier.
