WESTBOROUGH- Frances Mango-Thompson, 63, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2013 at her family home. She was the beloved wife of Bill Thompson and the loving mother of Samantha Rose Thompson. Those who knew Fran will remember that family was most important to her, a fact reflected in the many family events, holidays and special days that she orchestrated.
Born in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Gladys (Taylor) Mango. Fran was educated in the Erie schools and graduated from Mercyhurst Prep. She attended Majorie Webster Junior College in Washington D.C. and was awarded a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology by Edinborough University of Edinborough, PA.
Most recently, Fran was a one-on-one aide at Mill Pond Elementary School in Westborough MA. Previously, she worked as a Speech Language Pathologist for the school systems in Portland OR, Burlington MA, Billerica MA, Quincy MA and Monterrey CA. During the three years that Fran and her family lived in England, she became Chief Editor of The Connection, The Chilterns American Women’s Club monthly publication.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Fran is survived by a brother, Albert Mango and his wife, Elaine, of Hurst, TX; sisters Marilyn Blocher of Rome, NY and Carolyn Kacprowicz of Erie, PA and many nieces and nephews.
She was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church and has been a Westborough resident for 13 years. Fran and her family previously lived in Beaverton, Oregon.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Friday, August 16, from 4 to 8 P.M.
Donations in her memory may be made to The Fran Mango-Thompson Fund, c/o Avidia Bank, 100 East Main Street, Westborough MA 01581. Proceeds will be used to establish one or more annual scholarships for Westborough High School Students.
