George R. Caron, Jr., 87 of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Valerie T. (Tennett) Caron to whom he was married for 61 years.
Born in Putnam, CT, he was the son of the late George and Winifred (Brown) Caron. He was a graduate of Killingly High School and also graduated from Kings Point Academy and the University of Hartford.
During the Korean Conflict he served with the U.S. Navy and then with the U.S. Navy Reserves attaining the rank of LTJG.
Mr. Caron was employed as mechanical engineer starting with Pratt and Whitney, Royal Typerwriter, Veeder Root all in Hartford. He ran his own company, Micro Corp. in Westborough and later became a contractor for Cethre Corp. and Jefferson Rubber in Worcester.
George built and raced sports cars from 1965 to 1985 and was a member of the Sports Car Club of America. He also restored British antique cars that won awards annually at the British Invasion in Stowe, VT. George adored animals of all kinds especially his dogs. George loved listening to and attending the opera.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Elizabeth C. Conrad and her husband, Robert, of Napa, CA and Thomas R. Caron and his wife, Teresa, of Westborough and honorary son, George Barrette of Westborough; one sister, Valerie Woisard of Woodstock, CT and three grandchildren, Genevieve Conrad, Colin Caron and Richard Caron.
Services and interment will be private.
