Gerard “Kenny” Gagnon, 80 passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife, Patsy (Higgins) and his loving family. Kenny died after battling a severe pneumonia with respiratory and cardiac complications.
Born in Quincy, MA Kenny was the son of the late Tim and Evie (Michael) Gagnon. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Karen Sullivan of Charlestown, his son, Christopher Gagnon and his wife Andrea of Natick. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Mark. Kenny was the proud “Papa” of Allison, Andrew, Owen, Luke, Ave, Allegra and Levi. He also leaves behind his brother, Michael; his niece Meredith and nephew Brian; his brothers and sisters in law - Tommy, MaryLou, Helen, Bobby, Kathy, Eddie, Joanne (deceased), Nancy and their spouses and many nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
As a youngster, Kenny loved all sports especially the neighborhood “pick-up games”. He then played baseball and basketball at Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth, MA where he graduated in 1963. Shortly after graduating he served in the US Army from 1964 to 1967, which included a year in Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam, he and Patsy were married and thus began their 57 years together. After discharge, he decided to pursue his education at Northeastern University where he graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering. During this time, he began his career at Mass Electric in Weymouth while raising his young family and attending school. After completing his degree, he was promoted to the position of Electrical Engineer in several Central Mass locations until he retired.
Above all else, Kenny found great joy and contentment in the love he shared with his wife, Patsy and their family. He loved nothing more than being together at the beach on Cape Cod. Kenny treasured the deep, meaningful memories connecting with extended family and friends.
For several years he enjoyed singing in the Westborough Community Chorus as well as serving on the Board of Appeals and the Veteran’s Advisory Board. He was a loyal and dedicated veteran helping out with the Board’s various activities - participating in parades, placing flags on the on the graves each Memorial and Veteran’s Day. In 2018 he was chosen to be the Grand Marshall of the Westborough Veteran’s Day Parade. In the last ten years Kenny found enjoyment in the camaraderie of his poker buddies at Orchard Hill.
Kenny was a kind, loving man of integrity, grace and dignity. He had a shining personality with a warm smile that always drew you in. With Kenny you always felt like you were home!
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 28 at 10:30 AM at St Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow at St Luke’s Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Home Base Program in conjunction with The Red Sox Foundation and MGH is dedicated to healing the wounds for Veterans and their families.
