Gloria M. (Fiorillo) Wilchynski, 87, of New Britain, Conn., died on Tuesday March 26,2013, peacefully at home. She was the beloved wife for 59 years to the late Leon Will Wilchynski. Born in Medford, Ma., she was the daughter of the late William and Luccia Fiorillo. She was a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford, Ct., and Central Connecticut State College, in New Britain, Ct., with a degree in English and History. Gloria began teaching English in New Britain and also taught evening school for immigrants applying to be U.S. Citizens. Gloria spent the majority of her career, as an English teacher at St. Ann’s middle school in New Britain. Her students won a number of awards for poetry and essays and continued to stay in touch with her throughout her life. Her greatest passion was opening her students' minds to new experiences through reading.
Gloria is survived by her son, Edward W. Wilchynski and his wife Judy of Westborough, Ma.: and daughter Mary Jo Cavarretta and her husband Michael, of Boxford,Ma., her sisters Eleanor Crockford of Chamblee, Georgia and Cathy Cahill of Situate, Ma., and sister in-law Kathleen Fiorillo of Albany, NY., and six grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Kathryn Wilchynski and Michael, Christian, and Daniel Cavarretta. A private funeral service was held at Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
