Herbert “Jack” Adams, PhD, 93, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Rosalie “Lee” (Goldfarb) Adams.

Born in Hamburg, NY, he was the son of the late Herbert and Helen (Schunk) Adams. During WW II he served with United States Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946 attaining the rank of Corporal.

Dr. Adams earned his BA (cum laude) in 1958 and his PhD in 1961 both at University of Buffalo.

His career as a Pharmacologist began at the Pharmacology Department at University of Buffalo School of Medicine from 1947 – 1961, Smith Kline and French Laboratories 1961- 1967, Astra Pharmaceutical Products, Inc. 1967 – 1993. Retiring in 1993.

In 1973 he was invited to spend a month studying various biological test procedures in the Pharmacology Department at the Royal College of Surgeons in London. He also coauthored numerous publications and participated in meetings and symposia on regional anesthesia in Edinburgh, Helsinki, Kyoto, Madrid, Minden, Oslo and Stockholm. He wrote and published two volumes of humorous verse and six volumes of short stories.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had a lifelong interest in literature and classical music. His library contains more than 1000 volumes, and his collection of compact discs represent the music of more than 400 composers.

Jack is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline H. Adams and Denise R. Adams both of Westborough and was the brother of the late Douglas W. Adams.

His funeral service will be on Friday, December 29, at 10:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Calling hours at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Thursday, December 28, from 4 to 6 P.M.
