James Patrick Gosselin, 62, of Hopkinton formerly of Melrose passed away Tuesday, May 7th at his home surrounded by family. Born in Holyoke, he was the son of the late Joseph V. Gosselin and Frances (Cassidy) Gosselin. He was the husband of Patricia (Heaney) Gosselin for 37 years. James grew up in Holyoke and attended Holyoke Catholic High School Class of 1968 and Holyoke Community College before being drafted into the US Army. Jim served his country honorably with the 82 Engineering Battalion stationed in Bamberg, Germany during the Vietnam War. He later earned a BS in Accounting from UMass Amherst in 1975 and began a long career spanning 30 years with the US Treasury Dept. and later the US Dept. of Homeland Security as an Auditor retiring in 2007. A resident of Hopkinton for 25 years, Mr. Gosselin was actively involved with the town serving as Chairman of the Capital Improvement Committee and with St. John the Evangelist Religious Education. He was also involved with youth groups in Hopkinton including Youth Football, Cub Scouts, and Little League. He enjoyed golfing and sailing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Martin Gosselin and his wife Jill of Rehoboth; Gregory Gosselin of Clinton; and Colin Gosselin of Milford; granddaughter; Abigail; brother; Joseph V. Gosselin, Jr. and his wife Diane of South Hadley; niece; Elizabeth Kouflie of South Hadley; nephews; Christopher Gosselin of Holyoke and Adam Gosselin of Jamaica Plain; and his mother in law, Barbara Heaney Perkins of York, ME.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday May 10th at 11:00am in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 20 Church St. in Hopkinton with burial to follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Hopkinton. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St. in Westborough. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of James to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute – Milford, 20 Prospect St. Milford, MA 01757or Salmon VNA & Hospice, 37 Birch St. Milford, MA 01757
