James A. Harvey, 92, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Janet L. (McGlory) Harvey, to whom he was married 73 ½ years.
Jim lived his entire life in Westborough. He was the son of the late Emory L. and Luta L. (Grimes) Harvey. He was a 1947 graduate of Westborough High School where he was captain of the football team. He then attended Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania but returned home to help his father with the family business.
Jim was the CEO of E. L. Harvey and Sons in Westborough. Jim’s courageous attitude and innovative spirit, combined with a strong sense of traditional values, resulted in a highly successful family business and nationwide reputation as a true entrepreneur. He was loved and respected by his employees, customers, and business associates. He was a member of The Congregational Church of Westborough where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Siloam Lodge AF & AM, Scottish Rite, the Shriners, and was the lead drummer for over 30 years for the Aleppo Temple Oriental Band. Jim was a founding member of the Westborough Community Chorus, a member of the National Solid Waste Management Association, earning national recognition, a President of the Detachable Container Association, and former Chapter Chairman of the Massachusetts Solid Waste Management Association. Jim was inducted into the Waste and Recycling Association Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2006 Jim was honored with the Good Scout Award. He received numerous other local and national awards and accolades.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Lynda H. Walcott of Westborough, James E. Harvey of Westborough, Douglas H. Harvey and his wife, Sarah, of Hopkinton and Steven A. Harvey and his wife, Debora, of Hopkinton: 11 grandchildren, Meredyth, Mark, Joshua, Emily, Lauren, Lindsay, Olivia, Victoria, Paige, Julia and Tess, and 8 great-grandchildren, Jack, Allison, Adrian, Norman, Gianna, Colton, Ada, and Sophia.
Jim was predeceased by his siblings, Elizabeth Lasselle, Alma O’Neil, Robert Harvey, and Martha Smith.
His funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at the Congregational Church of Westborough, 57 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are private.
