James "Jim" Everett Hickman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud U.S. Army Veteran, passed away on June 20, 2024, at the age of 80. Jim was born on September 30, 1943, in Massillon, Ohio, to Laura and Ernest Hickman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Hickman Daily.
Jim was a devoted husband to Cheryl Hickman, his wife of 34 years, and a loving father to his seven children. His legacy extends through his 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who all brought him immense joy throughout his life.
A dedicated serviceman, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the 67th Medical Depot. Following his military service, Jim embarked on a successful career with Ingersoll Rand, spanning over 30 years as a Field Service Technician and Mechanic. His work took him across the globe, where his expertise and problem-solving skills were highly valued by colleagues and clients alike.
Outside of his professional life, Jim had a passion for woodworking, drawing, auto mechanics, camping, and feeding the birds. He found solace and fulfillment in creating with his hands and connecting with nature. Jim's love for dogs was evident, and his loyal companions brought him comfort and companionship throughout the years.
Jim's memory will be cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brothers, sisters; as well as his extended family and friends. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and zest for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at the Chapel of the Cross Church, 14411 Orrville Street NW, North Lawrence, Ohio on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Visitation will be open at 10:30 am with services beginning at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon.
Jim will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery, 106 South Street, Westborough, MA with graveside services on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10am with a memorial luncheon to follow at the Worcester Marine Corp League, 181 Lake Ave, Worcester, MA.
Jim's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
