Joan B. Wood

Joan "Joannie" (O'Brien) Wood passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Rose Monahan Hospice Center, on September 15, 2014. Her best friend, Robert L. (Woodie) Wood, and husband of over sixty years passed away earlier this year.

Joan was known by her humor, love of music, and pride in her Irish Heritage. She was a graduate of Westborough High School class of 1949, and enjoyed organizing their many class reunions. She was a Charter Member of the Westborough Community Chorus, and the Hundredth Town Belle Group. Her family and friends will always cherish her jokes, stories, and the ease with which she could make an immediate friend of a perfect stranger.

Joan is survived by her three daughters,  Donna McNamara and her husband Dennis Crehan of Alexandria, VA, Lori Kinney and her husband Craig of Westborough, Traci McCarthy of Derry, N.H., her sister, Ruth Welsh, her brother Gerald O'Brien, both of Westborough, a brother in law, sisters in law, many nieces, nephews, and lots of great friends. She was the proud grandmother of Phil. Alison, Zak, Conor, and Hannah, and proud great grandmother to Ginny, Maddy, Matt, Jack, Megan, Kelly, Colby, and Alexis.

In addition to her husband, Joan was pre-deceased by her father, Mark F. O'Brien, her mother, Gertrude (Travers) O'Brien, her brother, William O'Brien, and her sister, Marjorie (O'Brien) Lightbody.

There are no calling hours. As in life together, Joan and Bob will be laid to rest together on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery Veteran's Section, South St., Westborough.  Family and friends are invited to attend.
