John F. “Jack” Strouse, Jr., a resident of Westborough for over 50 years, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years young. Jack was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Claire E. (McCarthy) Strouse, who died in 2015.
Born in New York City, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Eleanor (Morse) Strouse, and grew up in New Rochelle, NY. He graduated as valedictorian from Blessed Sacrament High School, a fact he humbly kept to himself. He went on to Manhattan College and then obtained his J.D. from Fordham Law School. He met the love of his life, Claire E. McCarthy, at a college tea dance and their lifelong devotion was inspiring.
Jack’s career as a trial attorney took him from head counsel at Allstate Insurance Company to become the founding partner of Strouse and Noone, LLC, Concord, MA where he thrived on trying civil cases until his retirement. His dedication to his community was evident in many committee memberships, where he left an indelible mark. Jack was a proud member of the Westborough K of C, The College of the Holy Cross Sodality and The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. Jack was very active in the church and served on many parish ministries.
A man of many talents, Jack’s musical gifts were inherited from his dad, who was a professional drummer during the Big Band Era. Jack’s children and grandchildren delighted in listening to him singing songs while strumming his ukulele and playing the piano. In his retirement, Jack enjoyed watercolor painting and gourmet cooking. He loved to make Irish bread and made a mean key lime pie. He and Claire also enjoyed trips to Cape Cod while raising their family, and later to Ireland and Marco Island.
In spite of his many gifts, Jack was a very humble man whose greatest joy was his family. With endless pride, he attended countless sporting events and school activities for his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his devoted children, John F. Strouse, III and his wife Theresa (Mathieu), Elizabeth S. Ricci and her husband Charles, Denise M. Harrison and her husband Timothy, Stephen P. Strouse, Mary-Claire DeCoursey and her husband Stephen and Nancy E. Stanton and her husband Michael. He will also be sorely missed by his cherished grandchildren, Jacqueline and Stephanie Strouse, Joanna Lewis, Abby Oresman, Christy McKenney, Timothy Harrison, Paige McCann, Jack Harrison, Timothy, Katherine and Thomas DeCoursey, John and Drew Stanton. He adored his nine great grandchildren with his tenth on the way near his birthday in October. Jack’s true and abiding love will warm the hearts of his family and friends forever.
He is also predeceased by his brother William Strouse.
