Joseph G. Inman, 70, a lifelong Westborough resident, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, at the Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Westborough, he was a son of the late Ernest S. Inman and Doris E. Gates. He graduated from Westborough High School.
Upon high school graduation, he worked in construction and attended college courses at night. After graduating from Officer Training School, Joe served in Vietnam 1968-69 as an Infantry Platoon Leader, earning the (CIP) Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star. Upon leaving active service, he became self-employed in the construction business and real estate. He then served the Town of Westborough for the next 30 years as the Building Commissioner.
He served as president of the Westborough Jaycees. He was a life member of Westborough Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, a former member of the Rotary Club and the Mass. Building Commissioners Association.
Joe is survived by his two children, Meredyth Inman of Chappaqua, NY, and Mark Inman of Westborough; one grandson, Jack Phillips; three sisters, JoAnn Bombard, Karen Johnson and her husband, Peter, and Kathleen Rose; his first cousins of the Broderick family; many nieces and nephews; and his friend and former wife, Lynda (Harvey) Walcott.
He is predeceased by three siblings, Stephen Inman, Peter Inman, and Judith O’Neill; and his first cousin, Michael Broderick.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 8, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Sunday, January 7, from 2 to 5 P.M.
