Margot Virginia “Meg” Thompson, 66, of Worcester and Westborough, MA, passed away on December 6th, 2023, from complications related to an ongoing struggle with autoimmune scleroderma. Margot was born November 15, 1957 to Preston and Dorothy Thompson (both deceased). She is survived by her sister Janet and her husband Art of Maine, her sister Paula and her husband Jay of California, her brother Nick and his wife Joan of Framingham, her brother Ned of Westborough, and her brother Rod and his wife Christine of Sandwich.
Margot was aunt to 6 beloved nieces and nephews, and grand aunt to six more. She treasured her role in all of their lives. She was that special aunt who loved to share the magic of Christmas with all.
Margot was a life-long learner, and a deeply skilled craftsperson. Many will recall her amazing displays for Raschel's children's clothing store in Westboro. Margot retired early from Tufts Veterinary in Grafton where she was responsible for technical writing and training materials. Most of all we remember Margot for her dedication to documenting the history of her family, using skills she learned at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston. Bookshelves in her home were filled with research materials and stories of immigration to America. This was her passion, to research deeply in order to understand not just the dates, but what the lives of the people who came before were like. On her Dad's side she discovered a connection to ornithologist, Frederick Ober (1849-1913). On her Mom's side she traced through obscure documents to find roots in County Cork Ireland and learned enough French to read church records from Quebec.
There will be a private family ceremony of interment at Newton Cemetery at a time to be determined.
We thank the staff at UMass Memorial Hospital University Campus, who eased her pain. And we especially thank her nephew, Kevin, for his kindness and caring on her last day and in her final moments.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any contribution in Margot's name to the Scleroderma Foundation via scleroderma.org
