WESTBOROUGH- Mary A. Dunleavy, 92, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Westborough.

Born in Everett, MA she was the daughter of the late John and Bridget (Gallagher) Dunleavy. She was educated in Everett schools and graduated from Boston College earning a bachelors degree in education and then a master’s degree from Northeastern University. She also graduated from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing and attended Simmons College earning a certificate in Public Health.

During WW II she served with the U.S. Army as an Army Nurse attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.

Mary worked as registered nurse at Boston City Hospital and later as a Principal of Practice Nurse at Westborough State Hospital prior to her retirement.

She was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, a member of the Women of St. Luke’s, was a member of the Stowell Parker Post, American Legion and served as the Grand Marshall at the Memorial Day Parade in Westborough several years ago.

Mary is survived by one brother, Ret. Admiral Richard Dunleavy of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Marguerite Mills of Worcester; a dear friend, Tamara Bethel residing at Compass at Golden Pond in Hopkinton and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John “Bud” Dunleavy.

“Mary D” was a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was very proud and supportive of all their goals and accomplishments. To Mary D, these were her children.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 1, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.

Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Thursday, May 31, from 4 to 7 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to the Meals On Wheels Program, c/o Westborough Council On Aging, 4 Rogers Rd., Westborough, MA 01581
