Mary was born in Worcester, the daughter of Peter and Anna D’Elia and was educated in the Worcester public school system. In her younger years she was a lifeguard at Bell Pond and worked at the Coca Cola plant on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. She also worked for a short time at Fay Mountain Apple Orchard in Westborough. Mary always believed her real work in life was raising her family. She knew how to have fun with her children. She could be seen ice skating at Lake Chauncey in Westborough or body surfing at Nauset Beach at Cape Cod. Mary continued this love of family into her later years when she took care of granddaughter. It was not unusual to see her riding a bicycle with her granddaughter and other children in the neighborhood. She was a happy lady as long as there were people in her house.
Mary had a passion for cooking. Her skill in the kitchen was unsurpassed. Her neighbors can attest to her wonderful Italian dishes. She loved and understood the fabric of her neighborhood. As a younger woman, she watched out for everyone there and more recently, they watched out for her. She will be missed.
In respect to Mary’s wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral services. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held with family members and her close friends at a future date.
