Mary S. Yap

Mary So-Yap, 82, loving wife of Leonardo Yap, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2023. She was known as “Mimi” to her friends and business associates. Her children called her “Yaya”- which meant baby-sitter in the Filipino vernacular. Mimi was born in Bulan, Sorsogon in the Philippines. She was a successful and passionate businesswoman in Lucena City, Philippines, before retiring to live in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Jersey. Mimi unconditionally loved her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the lottery. She was fond of collecting newspaper and magazine clippings as well as Chinese “hong pao” red fortune envelops.

She is survived by her husband Leonardo, her elder sister Rosario So-Hsieh, her five children, George, Sheldon, Kirk, Hazel and Iryn, her children-in-law, Jeff, Jennifer and Ruth. Mimi doted on all her grandchildren, Siegwald, Ninna, Heidi, Sigrid, Siegourny, Matheu, Yoshiko, Javier, Yanni, Yuji, and Iliana, who live in the Philippines and the USA.

Services will be held privately in the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home.
