Miss Maude Elizabeth Payne of Waltham
Died March 17, 2015 at the Willows / Beaumont Rehabilitation Center of Westborough where she resided for the past ten years.
Maude was 95.
Maude was born in Everett on March 22, 1919, the daughter of the late Oscar S. and Maude Blanche (Jackson) Payne.
Maude resided in Waltham before moving to the Willows in Westborough. She also resided during the summer months in Bar Harbor, Maine where she enjoyed many years with friends. She also traveled extensively throughout the world.
Maude graduated from Framingham State College in 1941 and was a school teacher at the Whittermore School in Waltham where she taught for forty-one years. She always joked as to how she taught the first twenty years at the first grade level but was demoted and taught the kindergarten for the last twenty-one years of her career. She was an avid reader and was known as the Reading Teacher.
Maude was a member of the Retired State County and Municipal Employees Association. And, was very active in Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts where she served as Recording / Membership Secretary for many years.
Maude was a past member of the Christ Church of Waltham.
Maude leaves her nephew, Paul O. Webber, Jr. of Wareham and his family.
Maude’s family would like to extend deepest gratitude to the caregivers who came into her life, helping her to remain active and independent especially those at Salmon Family Facilities at the Willows and the Beaumont Rehabilitation Center where she was cared for by a caring and compassionate staff.

All services for Maude are private. Funeral and burial arrangements are being handled by the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home 62 West Main Street, Westborough.

Burial will be in the family plot at the Linwood Cemetery, Weston
