Paul T. Salvadore, a retired insurance executive and consultant, of Westborough MA, died after a brief illness, on Friday, October 23, 2015 with his loving family at his side.
He leaves his loving wife of 64 years, Betty J. (Liberty) Salvadore, his daughter Paula and husband Robert Kelley of Westborough MA, his three sons Richard of Chicago IL, John and wife Janice of Hopkinton MA, James and wife Rose of Amherst NH, his brother Romeo and wife Shirley of South Barre MA, his sister Liberina Amidio of Athol MA, and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Kelley, Christopher, Jeffrey, Timothy, Julianne Salvadore and Sonny Zhao.
He was predeceased by his grandson Andrew John Salvadore, his brothers Joseph, Anthony and Josie, and his sisters Mary Salvadore, Laura Rodzik, Eleanor Rochon, Matilda Kopinto, Angelina Volpe.
He was born in South Barre MA, son of late Ralph and Anne Marie Salvadore. He graduated from Barre High School and Harvard University, Cambridge MA.
When he lived in Barre, he served as a member and chairman of the Barre School Committee, member of the Quabbin Building Committee, member of the Town Manager Study Committee, sponsored the article at town meeting for a full time police chief, introduced the position of guidance counselor at Barre High School and established the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Thomas-A-Becket Church in South Barre.
He and his family moved to Westborough in 1963. In Westborough, he was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist parish where he served as a Christian doctrine teacher and served on the parish council. He was a 40 year retreatant at Calvary Retreat Center of Shrewsbury MA and was a 4th degree Sir Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Edward F. McSweeney Assembly, Council # 85 of Westborough.
He served as a member of the Westborough Council of Aging and as a member and
Chairman of the Westborough Democratic Town Committee. He served many years as coach, manager, and executive director of the Westborough Little League. He was a member of American Legion Post 2 of Barre, MA.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving as a Naval Intelligence Officer. He served aboard the U.S.S. Tonawanda and as an officer in charge of the Harbor Defense Unit in Boston MA. He attended the Naval War College in Newport RI. He worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and at the U. S. Naval Intelligence Headquarters in Alexandria VA. He served as an Information Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy and was a member of Naval Intelligence Professionals.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve and served as officer in charge of the Navy Intelligence Division Unit in Worcester MA, Commanding Officer of the Boston Intelligence Division with units in New England, and as Naval Reserve Intelligence Commander with units in New England and New York.
He was the recipient of several Naval Awards and citations. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Captain in 1986.
Mr. Salvadore retired from Liberty Mutual as assistant New England Claims Manager in 1992 and worked thereafter as an insurance consultant.
Private services were held on November 2, 2015. Arrangements were coordinated by the Westborough Funeral Home and a mass was held at St. Luke’s the Evangelist Church, followed by a military burial at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Westborough MA.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sadagopan, the doctors, nurses and entire staffs at St Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester MA, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston MA, and Beaumont Rehabilitation Centers in Worcester and Westborough MA for their tremendous care and expertise during this difficult time.
