Peter M. Dorr

September 19, 1948 — February 12, 2018

Westborough

Peter Michael Dorr passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side on Monday, February 12th, 2018 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westborough, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Born on September 19th, 1948 in Framingham, he was the son of the late Frank J. Dorr and Phyllis A. Dorr. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi R. Dorr, his wife, Watsana P. Dorr, and his younger identical twin brother of three minutes, Paul D. Dorr, all of Westborough. He is additionally survived by his brothers and sisters Linda M. Cox of Hudson, Thomas F. Dorr and Phillip C. Dorr of Westborough, Phyllis-Anne Dorr of Glendale, RI, Daniel J. Dorr of Webster, Denis J. Dorr of Uxbridge, and a menagerie of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Carl.

Growing up, Peter enjoyed spending time with his father and his siblings, doing things like crafting Christmas wreaths, delivering newspapers, fishing, camping, and, as he got older, helping out with the family business, Holliston Sand Company. He attended St. Mary's Central Catholic High School in Milford, where he made records as a student athlete on the cross country and track team, and later on attended the accounting program at Grahm Junior College in Boston. In 1970, Peter was drafted into the US Army and spent time training in Fort Dix and Fort Bliss before being stationed in Germany. Carrying over his love for running, he was apart of the US Army's track and field team. Although unexpected, he appreciated his time in Europe, forging friendships with folks from all over (such as the late Donald Fraser, of England) and had many wonderful experiences he looked fondly on in the decades thereafter. Upon his retirement from the army in 1972, Peter maintained a magnificent beard which brought great joy to friends, family, and strangers alike.

In the following years, Peter found employment in his brother Paul's Central Bronze & Aluminum, Inc., and later on, BJ's Wholesale Club, where he worked in freezer management, shipping and receiving, and asset protection for almost 30 years. Eventually, he met his wife, Watsana, in Bangkok, Thailand. After settling back down in Westborough, they had their only child together, Kristi. As a father, he enjoyed many hobbies including raising chickens, gardening, cooking, genealogy and family history, and had a deep love for the sea. He took many trips to places like Maine and Nantucket to learn more about his family history as well as to indulge in his passion for schooners and ships. Other pastimes included watching Red Sox games, shouting retorts at the umpires as if he were actually there, and curling up for a nap with the family cat, Mustard. He was a man with a presence as big as life itself, and will always be remembered for his quick wit, humor, amazing work ethic, his love for hot dogs, his flat caps, his wonderful beard, and his sweet tooth.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date with details to follow. Please keep an eye on www.peterdorr.wixsite.com/mysite for information.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's memory to the Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington Street, Bath, ME 04530 or www.mainemaritimemuseum.org
