WESTBOROUGH- Philip Salah, 87, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. (Hemstead) Salah.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Michael and Beatrice (Wright) Salah and was educated in Worcester schools.
Phil was a musicians, musician. Not only was he an excellent drummer but an outstanding teacher. He started teaching in 1947 and quickly acquired, by word of mouth, many young students. From that time on he has been on the go doing what he loved- teaching drums and playing in just about every night-club in and around Worcester. He had many offers to travel with big bands and small combos but didn’t, the students always came first.
Phil is survived by his brother, Robert Salah of Westborough; nephews Robert Salah, Jr. and his wife, Marianne, of Northborough and Joseph P. Salah of Worcester; nieces Sr. Roberta Salah of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Springfield, Michele Cimmino and her husband, Christopher, of Union, CT, Ann Marie Salah of Westborough; a sister in law, Hazel Doherty of Cherry Valley; nephews Jay Doherty of Cherry Valley, Daniel Doherty of Cherry Valley, Ross Doherty and his wife, Pollysean, of Worcester; great nephews, Jake Dohert of Worcester, Anthony Cimmino of Union, CT; great niece, Amy Doherty of Worcester; great nephews, Jeremy H. Salah of Waltham and Michael R. Salah of Dudley.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, November 16 at 10:30 A.M. in the Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
A calling hour will precede the service from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
