WESTBOROUGH- Ralph J. Smith, 91, of Westborough passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westborough. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Kenneally) Smith.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Angus and Nora (Cahill) Smith. He was educated in Charlestown schools and graduated from Boston University and Boston College School of Law.
During WW II he served with the U. S. Navy attaining the rank of Chief Yoeman
Mr. Smith worked in Immigration Law for the U. S. Government in Boston. After his retirement he practiced law with Joseph O’Neil Attorneys in Boston.
He was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, was a member of the Charlestown School Boys, Knights of Columbus, and the Westborough Historical Society. He has been a resident of Westborough since 2002 previously living in West Roxbury.
Ralph is survived by one daughter, Alyce P. Luippold and her husband, Paul, of Westborough, Michael J. Smith of Uxbridge, Ralph J. Smith, Jr., and his wife, Debra, of Bridgewater and Paul G. Smith of Nahant; one brother, Thomas Patrick Smith of Marshfield; three sisters, Mary Woodruff of Buzzards Bay, Dorothy DeNaples of Quincy and Margaret Solberg of Weymouth; four grandchildren, Michael Smith, Megan Smith, Jennifer Smith and Taylor Sullivan and her husband, Shaun and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Smith, James Smith and Susan Marsh.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 23, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Sunday, September 22, from 2 to 5 P.M.
