Rev. George O. Lange, 81, former pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Westborough, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Knollwood Nursing Center in West Boylston.

Born in Gardner, he was the son of the late Oliver and Alice (McGee) Lange. He was raised and educated in Athol and was a 1950 graduate of Athol High School. Following graduation he attended St. John’s Seminary, Brighton, then studied at North American College in Rome. He was ordained on December 15, 1957 by Bishop Martin J. O’Connor in Rome.

Fr. George’s assignments were at North American Martyrs Parish, Auburn, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Winchendon, St. George, Worcester, St. Anthony’s, Webster. He served as CCD Coordinator, South County, and was the Bishop’s Liaison to Charismatic Renewal Groups. He served as pastor of St. Joseph Good Provider, Berlin, St. Charles Borromeo, Worcester, co-pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption, Milford and pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Westborough, retiring in 2007.

Fr. George enjoyed fishing, reading, hiking, bird watching and classical music.

He is survived by one sister, Madeleine A. Faenza of Franklin, two nephews, Paul Faenza and his wife, Brigid, of Mt. Holly, VT and Peter Faenza of Franklin, and two grandnieces, Alice and Mary Faenza. He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Lange and a brother in law, Louis Faenza.

A Rite of Welcome and Liturgy of the Word will be held on Monday, January 12, at 4:00 P.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough, followed by calling hours until 7:00 P.M.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough.

Committal services will take place on Wednesday, January 14, at 11:00 A.M. in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
