WESTBOROUGH- Richard B. Smith, 84, of Westborough, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the UMass/Memorial Healthcare- University Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Jane P. (Mullen) Smith to whom he was married for 63 years.
Born in Fitchburg, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Lillian (Bruce) Smith. He was raised in Westborough and educated in Westborough schools. He also graduated from University of New Hampshire studying in the field of animal husbandry.
During WW II he served with the U. S. Army attaining the rank of Corporal.
Mr. Smith was employed as an assembler and later manager at Tufts Machine Shop in Westborough for 40 years prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth B. Smith of Loveland, Colorado and John P. Smith and his wife Lisa of Westborough; his siblings, Betty Murdock of New York, Myron Smith of Maine and Nancy Pruitt of California; three grandchildren, Jason Smith, Joshua Smith and Becky Smith and six great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14, at 1:00 P.M. in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, February 13, from 4 to 7 P.M.
