SHREWSBURY- Richard A. “Dick†Clapp, 88, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westborough. He was the husband of Gerda (Feuchtinger) Clapp.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Leon and Ethel (McClain) Clapp. He was educated in Westborough schools and was a 1944 graduate of Westborough High School. He also attended Wentworth Institute, Worcester Junior College and earned a bachelors degree from Northeastern University.
During WW II he served with the U. S. Army Air Corps.
Dick was employed as a design engineer for ITECH in Lexington prior to his retirement.
He was a member of The Congregational Church of Westborough, Siloam Lodge AF & AM, was a former scout master for Troop 100 and was a member of the swing band “Esquiresâ€. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, bicycling and model railroads. He has been a resident of Shrewsbury since 1977 previously living in Westborough.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children, Constance Eucker and her husband, Mark, of Woodstock, CT, Dianne Clapp of Westborough, Michael Berg and his wife, Pamela, of Holden, Pamela Sullivan of Leominster and Laurie Pardee and her husband, John, of Westborough; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dick was predeceased by his first wife, Priscilla (Clark) Clapp.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 26, from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Members of Siloam Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service at 6:45 P.M.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00 A.M. in The Congregational Church of Westborough, 57 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
