NORTHBOROUGH- Richard J. Stein, 82, of Northborough and Schenectady, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in Schenectady. He was the husband of Clare M. Stein.
Born in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of the late Luther and Olive (Handwerk) Stein. He was a graduate of Palmerton High School, earned a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry at Penn State and a Masters and PhD. in Polymer Chemistry at Akron University.
During the Korean Conflict he served with the U.S. Army.
Richard was employed as a Polymer Chemist for Goodyear in Ohio, General Electric and Insulating Materials, Inc. both in New York prior to his retirement.
He was an avid collector of rocks and minerals for over 40 years. He was the past president of Akron and New York Capital District Mineral Clubs. He enjoyed playing the Dulcimer and working in his yard.
In addition to his wife he is survived by six sisters, Bernice Kern of FL, Lucille Rex, Marlene Fetchko, Joyce Lesher, Jean Smith and Janet Hall all of PA and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Doris Yenser, Charles Stein, Bruce Stein, Archie Stein and Austin Stein.
His funeral Mass will celebrated on Saturday, November 17, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 8:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, prior to the funeral Mass.
