WORCESTER

Robert E. Borglund born September 6, 1928, died May 31, 2022.

Bob, or 'Bunky' as his family called him, was born in Worcester on September 6, 1928.  He was the son of Robert E. Borglund and Mary (Penny) Borglund. He was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth M. Cordella and Janice A. Parretti, and his brother Alan P. Borglund.  Some of his favorite memories of childhood were growing up in Quinsigamond Village, skating on Lake Quinsigamond, eating Coney Island hot dogs, and having dinner at his cousin Sven's house.

Bob joined the Marines in 1945 at the end of World War II.  He was stationed in Tsingtao, China, and was a Sergeant when he was discharged in 1949.

He married Josephine (Pinsky) Lindberg in 1955 and enjoyed helping her raise her two sons, Bruce and Walter Lindberg.  Bob worked at Norton Company as a customer service representative. He and his wife, Josephine, also owned and operated Borglund's Gift Shoppe in Quinsigamond Village.  After retiring, they enjoyed time on the Cape and in Fort Meyers, Florida

Later in life, Bob found his love for running.  He was a member of a running club in Fort Meyers, Florida.  He ran eleven Boston Marathons, the first at the age of 58 and the last at age 82. At the age of 80, Bob won the men's 80-plus age group running 4:04:57.

His family was lucky enough to spend the last year and a half with Bunky reliving his past and enjoying his sense of humor.  He will be fondly remembered and missed by his stepson, Walter Lindberg of Vermont, his cousin, Sven Borglund of Centerville, MA, his great friend, Bob Chambers of Lowell, Michigan, and his loving caregiver and cousin, Sterling Fitzgibbons, of Westborough, MA, and many others.

Please consider donating to the Dementia Society of America in Bob's name.
