WESTBOROUGH- Robert G. Pond, 95, of Westborough, passed away peacefully at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, February 16, 2012. He was the husband of the late M. Winifred (O’Neil) Pond.
Born in Colville, Washington, he was the son of the late Herbert and Anna (Hamlin) Pond. He was educated in Washington and attended the University of Washington.
During WW II he served with the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Pond was employed as general foreman at Wyman-Gordon for many years prior to his retirement.
Bob was a longtime daily communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, was a member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Council 85, Knights of Columbus, volunteered for many years at Beaumont in Westborough and was an active member of the Senior Center. He also worked part time as an assistant at the Britton-Summers Funeral Home and was a former member of the VFW.
He is survived by six sons, William H. Pond and his wife, Holly of Narragansett, RI, Robert G. Pond and his wife, Lily, of Woodbridge, VA, Richard J. Pond and his wife, Nancy, of Westborough, Stephen J. Pond and his wife, Rose, of Northborough, Edward F. Pond and his wife, Patricia, of Maine and Martin J. Pond and his wife, Vonnie of Wisconsin; six daughters, Maryanna V. Pond of Syria, Constance A. Pillsbury and her husband, Donald, of Hopkinton, Judith E. Slonka of Wenham, Christine I. Pond of Westborough, Regina M. Carnathan and her husband, David, of Milton and Rita J. Garrahan and her husband, William, of Framingham; one sister, Isabel, of California; 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Wednesday, February 22, from 3 to 7 P.M.
Members of the John Boyle O'Reilly, Council 85, will conduct a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the funeral home.
