Ronald A. Fraser, 84, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Westborough.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Ronald and Margaret Fraser. He was educated in Westborough and was a 1958 graduate of Westborough High School.
Ron served for nine years with the U.S. Army. He started his service at the School for Aircraft Electricians at Fort Eustis, VA, where he graduated top of his class. In the Army, Ron repaired helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, specializing in instrumentation. Ron served during the Vietnam Era. His service took him from Korea to Germany to Vietnam. He was very proud of his service. Following his military service, he was employed as an Airline Mechanic for Eastern Airlines, the Trump Shuttle and U.S. Air at Chicago’s O’Hare and Boston’s Logan airports
Ron was a railroad enthusiast, traveling the world chasing trains with his good friend Brian Morris. Ron had an extensive model railroading collection, belonged to multiple model railroad associations and helped design and build numerous layouts. Ron was the co-founder of the Rhode Island Computer Museum with his good friends Dan Berman and Merle Peirce. Ron was very proud of his Scottish heritage and family history. He had a love of photography and especially the family’s cats.
Ron is survived by one sister, Linda J. Lane of Westborough; a niece, Melissa Clemmer and her husband, Scott, of N. Grafton; a nephew, Robert Lane and his wife, April, of Grafton and three grand-nephews, Jonathan Holland and his fiancé, Sara, Steven Lane and Matthew Lane. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Paul Lane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Beaumont, and especially thank Harrison, Mary and Gabby, for the great care and friendship they provided.
A graveside funeral service, with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, October 12, at 10:00 A.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery, South St., Westborough.
Calling hours at the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Friday, October 11, from 5 to 7 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust or the Rhode Island Computer Museum.
