Simone Caron, 84, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough. Born on February 12, 1940 in Somerset, MA, she was a beloved daughter of the late Leo and Adela (Bouchard) Caron. She was raised and educated in Somerset, MA until her high school graduation. Simone then began her service as a Religious Sister in the order of “Religious of Jesus and Mary” in New York, where she was known as Mother Leo. During this time, she dedicated her life to teaching and ministry in New York City, further exemplifying her lifelong commitment to education and spirituality.
She then continued her religious journey outside of the convent in Westborough, serving as the Director of Religious Education in St. Anne’s Parish in Shrewsbury, Holy Angels Parish in Upton, and most recently in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton. Her passion for religious education shaped the spiritual foundations of hundreds of children, as she worked tirelessly to educate children in the sacramental process of Holy Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation. Through her initiatives, she not only nurtured the faith of her students but also fostered the continued education of numerous teachers involved in the religious education process. Notably, Simone created enriching experiences for her students, enhancing their Confirmation journey by leading retreats and organizing engaging activities that brought the teachings of Christ to life.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Simone single handedly raised three children who she loved more than life. She enjoyed and looked forward to holiday gatherings with her family, proudly watching them grow over the years. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her the most joy, along with her cat Nellie. She loved to read, write memoirs and sing as a member of the Westborough Community Chorus. Simone connected with her community through her warm personality and infectious smile. She was remembered fondly for her vibrant blue streak of hair, which matched a tattoo honoring her granddaughter, Elysha. As a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, her enthusiasm for the team was a significant part of her joyful spirit.
Simone made a pilgrimage to the Holy Lands, a journey that held profound significance in her life.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughter Lisa Henault, her sons Rick Zeal and his wife Brandy, Chris Caron and his wife Melissa; her grandchildren, Elysha Cautela, Ivy Zeal and Travis Henault and his wife Haeley; two great-grandchildren Juliette and Delilah Henault; her sister, Theresa Saucier and many nieces and nephews.
Simone was predeceased by her brother, Leo Caron, Jr., and sisters Jeanne Caron-Thompson, Claudete Dagwan, and Jeannine Caron, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and dedication to all who knew her.
Her funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 29, in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 151 Mendon Street, Upton. A private burial will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery, Westborough.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to St. Gabriel's Building Fund, 151 Mendon Street, Upton, MA 01568.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives she touched through her unwavering commitment to faith and education.
