Thomas F. Flanigan, 87, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Westborough, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at home.

Tom Flanigan was born in Milford Ma., son of the late John T. Flanigan & Catherine (Clancy) Flanigan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Marilyn “Pudgy” (Ridley) Flanigan. He leaves his sons Thomas F. of Worcester, Gerald & his wife Cheryl of Webster, Gregory & his wife Debbie of Webster, Glenn & his wife Sharon of Westboro, Mark & his wife Judy of Shrewsbury and his daughters Amy Flanigan-Butts & her husband Mark of Northbridge and Julie Loranger of Shrewsbury. He also leaves his grandchildren Erin & Marek Barwinski, Patrick & Kristina Flanigan, Jason & Danielle Flanigan, Meaghan Flanigan, Kayla & Dan Smith, Justin Flanigan, Shawn Flanigan, Danielle Flanigan, Lauren Costedio, Jordan Flanigan, Neil Flanigan, Jake Flanigan, Nicole Butts, Jonathan Butts, Rachelle Ramsey and his great grandchildren Ryan Flanigan, Alia Poppy Barwinski and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Jack & his wife Marie Flanigan and his sisters Catherine Flanigan, Helen & her husband Don Phillips, Maree Wood, Nan & her husband Jake Curley and Kathleen Flanigan.

Mr. Flanigan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford in 1948, Wilberham Academy in 1949 and St. Michael’s College in Vt. In 1953. During his school years he played varsity baseball and football, including 2 years of Milford Legion baseball. After college he spent 2 years in the US Army Medical Corps., upon discharge he spent 10 years as a principal in several family businesses that produced a variety of components for the shoe industry. He then spent 25 years working at the US Army Natick R&D Center retiring in 1992.

He and his family lived in Westboro for 47 years and considered Westboro a wonderful town in which to raise seven children. His family was very much involved in Westboro High School athletics and he & his wife had great praise for the coaches & teaching staff there. In his younger days he was active in the K of C and also took great pleasure in being a member of the Westboro Civic Club particularly during Christmas time playing Santa on the tree lot or selling trees. Tom was also a member of the Westboro Country Club where he enjoyed many years playing with the men’s senior group, including the thrill of scoring a hole-in-one. His family was his greatest pride and joy, he got great pleasure in watching them grow up and expand w/spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tom Flanigan was a warm and loving man who made everyone he met feel special, he will be missed by all.

The Flanigan’s would like to thank VNA Hospice Care for their excellent and compassionate care provided to our dad/husband.

Calling hours will be Friday, December 8, from 4 to 8 P.M. at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.

A funeral Mass honoring Thomas will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, at 10:00 AM in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St, Westborough.

Burial, with military honors, will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army at “give.salvationarmyusa.org”
