Westborough- Virginia Ludwig Walthall, 90, of Westborough, died Saturday, December 29th, 2012.

Born in Springfield September 30, 1922 and raised in Westfield, MA, she graduated from Westfield High School and the University of Connecticut.

Ginny trained to become a R.N. at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and served her country as a Navy nurse during W.W.II. She met Wally, her beloved husband of 59 years, while stationed in Georgia. They married in 1952 and moved to New York City where Wally finished his medical training in Radiology.

They were long time residents of Westfield, MA, where she worked as a R.N. at Noble Hospital and then began raising three sons and serving the community.  The organizations she served and helped create were numerous; The Westfield Child Guidance Clinic, The Open Door Nursery School for E.S.L. students, President of the Westfield Women’s Club, President of the Hampden District Medical Society Auxiliary, Health Education Volunteer Springfield Science Museum, Board of Directors Westfield Y.M.C.A., Board of Directors The Shurtleff Children’s Services Foundation, Board member The Sarah Gillett Foundation, Evaluator for the Fulbright Scholarship Committee.

Ginny loved playing competitive bridge, gardening, painting, singing, travel, raising and caring for her extended family. She especially loved family vacations on Cape Cod.  She was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Parish in Westfield. She especially took great joy in her nine grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, William W. Walthall Jr., her parents, George W. Ludwig and May Berube Ludwig, and her brother, Donald F. Ludwig.

She leaves three sons and three daughters-in-law, William W. III and Margot Walthall of Westborough, Thomas D. and Eileen Walthall of Douglas and Jeffrey B. and Nancy Walthall of Wellesley, nine grandchildren, Caroline, William W. IV and Jack of Westborough, Katy, Christine and Shannon of Douglas and Benjamin, James and Andrew of Wellesley and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 3 at 10:30 am at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough, MA 01581.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 2 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, MA 01581.

There will be a graveside service Friday, January 4 at 1:00 PM at Pine Hill Cemetery, Western Ave., Westfield, MA 01085.
